We were commenting that perhaps there is a little more emphasis on the western part of Japan which should give inducement to those people who are around Tokyo. That is my first point. Not only geographically but in terms of the themes tackled, there were diverse topics covered, not just by people who major in English or Law or whatever, but medicine, science, engineering and so forth which also is a very encouraging sign.
And, we all had a difficult time judging. The results will be announced shortly. But, as a senior citizen I drew great encouragement from listening to all these young people and I think we can have a bright hope for the future. Thank you very much.
Thank you chairpersons, presenters, judges, ladies and gentlemen. Today, I enjoyed very much. Sometimes, I forget my judging work. Next time, I will come to here as one of audiences to listen and concentrate on the presentations. Anyhow today, the presentations, many ways of thinking and ideas are very valuable, and I think, those can be regarded as the model of thoughts. I think that the model of thoughts are the social assets. We should improve, maintain and prepare such model of thoughts.
What is the next actions and accomplishments? Let’s create our future. I’d like to say, finally, good luck to each future. Thank you very much.
熱のこもったプレゼンテーションをお聞かせいただき、ありがとうございました。
私も仕事柄、人前でプレゼンテーションをすることがありますが、いかに自分の考えやメッセージを過不足なく相手に正確に伝えることが難しいかを、常々感じています。
本日出場した皆さんは、大変すばらしいプレゼンテーションをされたと思います。しかも、英語でできることはすばらしい。本当に感動し、心から敬意を表します。
私がプレゼンテーションをするときに大事にしていることは、準備を完璧にすることです。まず自分の伝えたいメッセージを十分に吟味し、その後でそれをいかに相手にわかりやすく、相手の身になって考えるか、伝えるか。そして最後にQ&Aの準備をいかにするか。こうしたプロセスを通じて自分の考えの弱いところが補強されていき、徐々に自信も沸いてきます。自信がでてくれば、プレゼンテーションは8割以上成功したも同じです。皆さんも、きっとそういったプロセスを踏んだものと思います。
これから皆さんは社会に出られて、プレゼンテーションをしたり、ご自分の意見を相手に伝えるという場面が必ずたくさんでてきます。そういった日々のために、これからも研鑽を積んでいただき、すばらしいプレゼンター、一流のコミュニケーターになっていただけたらと心よりお祈りしております。
今回で3回目の審査員をさせていただいております。毎年、非常に楽しみですが、もう少し自分たちも楽しみながらプレゼンテーションをすると、よりいいのではないでしょうか。
プロスポーツ選手は、よく「Most important is enjoy ourself(最も重要なのは、自分たちが楽しむこと)」と言っています。
これから皆さんがビジネスの世界に入ったとき、英語のプレゼンテーションも非常に大切ですが、最も大切なのはそれではない。つまり、英語もプレゼンテーションも道具です。自分のアイデアで、製品やサービスのプレゼンテーションをし、買ってもらえたという結果につなげることが大切です。社長に「製品は売れなかったのですが、プレゼンテーションは最高だったと言われた」と報告するわけにはいきません。
これから皆さんは、待ったなしのそういう世界に立って、英語とプレゼンテーションという道具を使って何ができるのか、という勝負になってきます。それを楽しみに進んでいっていただきたいと思います。
Thank you very much. I know you are really waiting to hear who won so I will keep my remarks very short. As the other judges have said more eloquently than I can, it has been an honor to be a judge at this event. I was incredibly impressed with the quality of what I heard today.
My only thought that I can add to the other excellent comments is that having spent most of my career in international business working for international corporations, the skills that you have been practicing and that we have seen today are incredibly important for your future. This is exactly the kinds of things that you will need to be doing as you enter the corporate world.
And so, I would encourage all of you to keep going, keep working on your skills and getting better, and I’m sure you’ll succeed. So, thank you all very much. .
Thank you very much. Everyone on this stage, to have gotten here, has to be very good. So, I knew from the beginning that I was going to hear some very good presentations and some very interesting ones – and I did. I enjoyed all of them and I learned some things from a few of them. I have just one comment to offer in the form of advice. Not criticism, but advice.
In Hollywood, in the movie industry, there is a very popular saying that a lot of people in other parts of the English-speaking world also use, which is ‘cut to the chase.’ A chase scene is often the most exciting part of the movie. So, a movie director or a movie producer, if he is afraid the movie is moving too slowly, may say, ‘Cut to the chase,’which means get to the exciting part.
There were a lot of very good, very exciting, very interesting things in the presentations today, but sometimes I felt like I was waiting for them just a little bit longer than I should. The introductions were attention-grabbing. But, once you have the audience’s attention, then you should do something with it. Tell them the good part right away. Tell them the interesting part soon. Get to the important part as quickly as possible. Cut to the chase.
