On November 26, 2015, Professor Shuichiro Megata of the Faculty of Law, Chuo University was awarded the Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle in the Grade of Band.

The Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle is the most honorable order conferred by the government of the United Mexican States (hereinafter called “Mexico”) on a foreign person.

At the ceremony held at the Embassy of Mexico in Japan, he received the order and diploma from the Ambassador Carlos Almada, who was acting for the President of Mexico Enrique Peña Nieto.

According to the press release of the Embassy of Mexico in Japan, Professor Megata was awarded for serving as a Japanese ambassador to Mexico for approximately 3 years from 2011 to 2014, and for assisting many Japanese firms to advance into Mexico, increasing investments, and arranging the visit of the President Peña Nieto to Japan, the visits of the Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Imperial Prince and Princess to Mexico, contributing to the cementing of the relationship between Japan and Mexico.

What is the Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle?
Established when the administration of Abelardo L. Rodríguez issued a presidential decree on December 29, 1933, this order is conferred by the Mexican government to foreign people who have contributed to Mexico or to society, including celebrities, politicians, artists, intellectuals, and entrepreneurs who have fortified the relationship between Mexico and other countries, and promoted the presence of Mexico in the world.
