Japan-China Conference

The 9th Japan-China Presidents Conference was held in Kyushu University from October 28 to 30, where Chancellor and President Shozaburo Sakai and Faculty of Economics Dean Yoji Taniguchi attended from Chuo University. The conference is held every two years for the purpose of developing ties in the higher education in both countries, attended by universities from both countries. This time there were 18 universities and 5 institutions from Japan, and 17 universities attending from China, adding up to more than 150 people participating in the conference.

Under the main topic “Globalization of Universities in Japan and China,” there were two group discussions about “Globalization and Social Contribution of Universities” and “Joint People Development and Joint Academic Research in Universities in Japan and China.” Chancellor and President Sakai made a presentation in the latter group, where there was an active discussion regarding the definition of global initiatives and their specific action plans for the further progress of relationship building between institutions across the countries. There was also a separate meeting with Xiamen University to discuss further networking activities.

During the student forum there were approximately 50 members who participated from both Japanese and Chinese universities. From Chuo University, 3rd year Faculty of Commerce student Shino Higuchi participated in the discussion about “The Roles of Students for the Globalization of Universities in Japan and China.”

On the last day, a declaration for the globalization of universities in Japan and China was adopted, and the conference came to a close. The next conference will be held in 2017 at Northeastern University in China.
