【Award Winning Title】
Development of Artificial Blood for Dogs
(Chuo University Faculty of Science and Engineering) Kana Yamada, Motofusa Akiyama, Teruyuki Komatsu

【Research Content】
Synthesized a cluster (hemoglobin-GM dog serum albumin) (brand name: HemoAct-C™) that can be used as artificial blood for dogs, and clarified its properties and oxygen capacity. As Japan has no blood donor and transfusion system for animals, veterinarians in the front line of pet medicine are troubled by the problem of a “lack of blood for transfusions.” This result is an epoch-making discovery that will contribute greatly to animal blood transfusion therapy, and early practical implementation is eagerly anticipated.
