Takuya Kimura, who belongs to Komatsu Laboratory and is a second-year master’s student of the applied chemistry course of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, received the First Place Poster Award (No. 1) and the IUPAC Poster Prize at the 15th IUPAC International Symposium on MacroMolecular Complexes (MMC-15). After rigorous screening, Kimura’s presentation was selected as the most outstanding one, resulting to the awards.

Core-Shell Structured Protein Cluster of Hemoglobin and Human Serum Albumin as an Artificial O2-Carrier

[Research contents]
The authors synthesized core-shell protein clusters by attaching human serum albumin (plasma protein) to the surface of hemoglobin, which functions to carry oxygen in the living body, and clarified its structure and oxygen binding capability. This new hemoprotein for transporting oxygen is expected to be used as artificial red blood cells and attracting attention in the fields of not only chemistry, but also pharmacy and medicine.
