Bicycle wins team pursuit

The 82nd Japan National Championships Track Race was held from July 27th (Sat.) to 28th (Sun.) at the Izu Velodrome of the Japanese Cycle Sportscenter in Shizuoka Prefecture. From this year’s race, the word “amateur” was dropped from the race’s title. Professional cyclists who are certified athletes of the Japan Cycling Federation competed in what was expected to be an extremely competitive race. However, the Chuo University Bicycle Team posted a record time for the championships to win the team pursuit group event. Furthermore, the team finished 3rd in the team sprint, and Takuya Takashi (2nd year student in the Faculty of Law) finished 2nd in the men’s scratch 15 kilometer individual event.

Perhaps due to the participation of professional cyclists, there was a decline in individual performance compared to last year. Takashi was the only member of team Chuo to climb the winner’s podium for individual events. However, the team’s performance in group events (1st place finish with new record and 3rd place finish) indicates a higher overall level of the Chuo Bicycle Team. Furthermore, Itsuki Hirose (1st-year student in the Faculty of Letters) finished 4th at men’s U23 event of the 82nd Japan National Championships Road Race, which was held in June this year. The Chuo University Bicycle Team has performed well on both the road and track at national-level competitions.

The 69th All Japan Intercollegiate Bicycle Championships will be held in Aomori Prefecture from August 29th (Thurs.) to September 1st (Sun.). Please continue to support the Chuo University Bicycle Team as they train for the intercollegiate championships.
