Faculty of Science and Engineering Professor Nanao Hayasaka has been awarded the 9th (2013) Japan-Austria Literature Society Prize, and received the award at the 2013 Spring General Meeting and Research Presentation held on May 26. This is the first time someone from Chuo University has been awarded the prize.

The Japan-Austria Literature Society, with the aim of researching Austrian literature and culture, which has a different historical and cultural background from other German speaking nations (Germany and Switzerland), was established as the Austrian Literature Society in 1981. The Literature Society Prize was established in order to appraise and officially recognize excellent achievements related to Austrian literature and culture, with up to a total of two awards given annually chosen from the two sections of individually written or translated published books or essays. Hayasaka won her prize for her acclaimed book.

The award winning book, “Robert Musil und der genius loci - Die Lebensumstaende des «Mannes ohne Eigenschaften»”, was published by Wilhelm Fink in 2011.
