Publishing Committee of Robotics (led by University of Tokyo Associate Professor Atsushi Yamashita), with Faculty of Science and Engineering professors (Department of Precision Mechanics) Hisashi Osumi and Taro Nakamura as committee members, has won the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers 2012 Education Award.

The Education Award is presented to individuals or groups producing outstanding results in educational activities in the mechanical engineering and industrial fields, and recognizes activities that excel or enlighten the fields, such as publishing educational materials like textbooks.

This award recognizes more than 5 years of work in producing the robot engineering textbook, Robotics, by over 20 leaders in robotic research, including Osumi and Nakamura, and their activities in improving educational methods.
