Chuo University has designated October 17th (Mon.) to 21st (Fri.), 2011 as the 2nd International Week (theme: Britain) and will hold the following events. The purpose of International Week is to promote globalization of our university, encourage intellectual curiosity among students and realize an even more vibrant campus.

4.The Twilight of British Film

5.British Fair
During the 2nd International Week (theme: Britain), the Chuo University Cooperative Union plans to hold a fair featuring cuisine related to Britain, as well as display and sales of British products.

1.Student exhibition: Modern Britain

Overview:

Displaying photographs and writings which portray modern Britain as seen through the eyes of Chuo University students. Includes events associated with the University of Sheffield short-term foreign study program.

2.Library exhibition: Precious Literature Related to Britain

Period:

October 17th to 28th

Venue:

Central Library, 2F Auditorium (please inform staff at the entrance that you wish to view the exhibition)

Overview:

An exhibition of precious written books and graphics related to Britain from the collection of the Chuo University Library. The exhibition features carefully selected works from the library's prestigious collection of precious written material related to Britain. Displayed works will include British legal books such as Blackstone's Commentaries on the Laws of England (1765, 4 volumes), literature related to the 1st British Exposition (1851), and works by David Hume, Jeremy Bentham, Thomas Hardy and William Morris.

3. Section of the Compilation: Chuo University and Britain

Building No. 1, 3F Auditorium

Overview:

Four of the founders of Chuo University studied at Britain's Middle Temple, including Rokuichiro Masujima, the first President of our university. Furthermore, the history of our university has a variety of connections with England. This exhibition introduces the deep connection between Chuo University and England since the early days of our university's founding. Displayed material shows the activities in England by Chuo University founders, Nyozekan Hasegawa and Sojinkan Sugimura who were prominent journalists, and other Chuo University Alumni.
