The 56th Scholar Athletics Meet Awards Ceremony and 2009 Physical Education Club General Victory Celebration were held with much fanfare on March 23rd at the Chuo University Surugadai Memorial Hall.
At the awards ceremony, the head of the Scholar Athletics Meet, Jotaro Takagi, presented the Superior Group Award to the Semi-hardball Club which won its eighth overall and second consecutive intercollegiate championship and the Superior Group Event Award to the Fencing Club which won the intercollegiate saber championship. He also presented an Outstanding Effort Group Award to the Men's Shooting Club, the Women's Shooting Club, the Kenpo Club, the Softball Club, and others for winning intercollegiate championships and the Outstanding Effort Group Event Award to the Bicycle Racing Club.
Seven students were presented with the Superior Athlete Award including Konomi Asazu of the Women's Track Club who individually participated in the two woman bobsled at the Vancouver Olympics becoming the first female student winter Olympics athlete in Chuo University history. In addition, 19 were presented with the Physical Education Award, four with the Outstanding Effort Award, and three with the Special Award.
Also, Chancellor and President and Head of the Association of Student Clubs, Dr. Kazuyuki Nagai, presented the President's Award to the seven Superior Athlete Award winners and four of the Physical Education Award winners. He also awarded one with the Superior Manager Award and two with the Long-time Manager Award.
Board of Regents Chair and Head of the Association of Student Clubs, Shuji Hisano, presented the Association of Student Clubs Head Award to the Superior Group Award winners, the Superior Group Event Award winners, four of the Outstanding Effort Group Award winners, one of the Outstanding Effort Group Event Award winners, six of the Superior Athlete Award winners, and six of the Physical Education Award winners. Ms. Asazu was presented with the Association of Student Clubs Head Special Award, and seven alumni who participated in international events such as swimming, kendo, and the World Baseball Classic were also awarded.
At the victory celebration after the awards ceremony, the head of the Scholar Athletics Meet, Jotaro Takagi, encouraged the students with I want you to maintain your abilities and get even more roused up, while also telling the graduating athletes that I want you to go into society and be active on the front line, improving the reputation of Chuo University.
After that, Chancellor and President Nagai praised the award winners with "your diligence and hard work are real contributions to Chuo University." Board of Regents Chair Hisano said "we have to keep Chuo University's sports strong," and emphasized his desire to support them actively going forward.
