As the United Nations Academic Impact participating institution, Chuo University, together with the social network Beyond MDGs Japan, the United Nations Information Centre has organized an awareness building event for the Millenium Development Goals Post 2015 Development Agenda, which includes the theme Poverty Reduction.
Throughout the 3-part event, competent documentaries selected from the series “Why Poverty?” aired worldwide by NHK will be shown, followed by panelist discussions by key experts.
The first event held on October 18 at Chuo University Korakuen Campus, will show the documentary “Solar Mamas,” and pick up on themes which include women’s rights and education, empowerment of women, natural energy, South-South cooperation, and community support.
The second event will be held on November 2 at the same campus, showing “Give Us the Money” starring Bono from U2, which will focus on themes including development funding and charity, actions by celebrities, North-South gap, and governance.
The third event will take place on Sunday, December 7, from 13:30 – 16:00 at the Korakuen Campus. The documentary “Land Rush” will be shown, and topics for discussion include land rights, land grab, family farming, conflict and development. There is no admission fee, and seats are available for a capacity of 150 people. Kaoru Nemoto, Director of the United Nations Information Centre will facilitate the panel discussion.
