International Symposium on Water Environment

Date & Time:
March 22nd (Fri); 9:00 to 18:00
Venue:
Korakuen Campus, New Building No. 3, 3F, Room #3300

Currently, issues involving global water resources are increasing in number and complexity. Some examples are major water-related disasters (flooding, drought, etc.), as well as unimproved or worsening problems related to water environments and water ecosystems.

As part of the Global 30 Project for funding the Japan-China-Korea Committee for Promoting Exchange and Cooperation among Universities (currently the Project to Support Formation of a Core Center Campus Asia) for which Chuo University was selected in 2010, our university has made academic contributions towards the improvement of such water-related issues by establishing an academic minor in Global Water-Environmental Engineering within the Graduate School of Science and Engineering in order to cultivate water environment engineers and water treatment engineers as highly-specialized professionals, while engaging in interaction with academic institutions throughout the world.

At the same time, we have worked while positioning our project as international contribution defined in the 9th principle a commitment to promoting sustainability through education of the United Nations Academic Impact, which is an initiative for social/international contribution from institutions of higher learning.

The March 22nd, 2013 is World Water Day during the International Year of Water Cooperation as designated by the UN General Assembly. On this day, mankind must strongly recognize issues concerning the water environment.

Therefore, Chuo University will hold the International Symposium on Water Environment in order to further advance our university's activities, to hold presentations and discussions on national, regional and global water-related problems and the research results of scientific technology related to the solutions, and to consider adaptation measures for water-related disasters caused by global warming.
