Fast Retailing CEO Yanai meets WISH Students
Waseda's Nakano International Community Plaza Official Opening

On April 8, Waseda University held the opening ceremony for its Nakano International Community Plaza, attended by approximately 50 students who live in the Waseda International Student House (WISH), Waseda leaders and numerous special guests. President Kamata and other representatives cut the ribbon.

The university received support from many alumni and philanthropists to establish the Plaza, completed on March 6. The ceremony was attended by many who have given tremendous support to its establishment, including Tadashi Yanai, Chairperson, President and CEO of Fast Retailing Co., Ltd.; Ronald Chao, Vice-Chairperson of the Hong Kong corporation Novel Enterprises Limited and his wife, Chao Luo Bizhen; Masaaki Ogino, Chairperson of Fenix Group Holdings Limited; Shinichiro Watari, Representative Director and Chairman of Cornes & Company Limited; and Daisuke Tanaka, Mayor of Nakano City. Following direction of a student from WISH, President Kamata and six guests cut the red & white ribbon in front of the audience at the south entrance of the Plaza.

After the ceremony, a reception was held in the WISH multi-purpose room on the second floor of the Plaza, bringing together about 100 WISH students and guests. First, President Kamata made a speech to express his expectation for the WISH and show his appreciation for the support from Yanai and others. Then, Yanai told the participants that in this era anyone in the world can work globally, referring to Fast's two employees from South Africa, and encouraged the WISH students to become future leaders who take the world in a better direction. Chao sent a message that the next 20 years will be the era of Asia, and he encouraged the students to enjoy their time in the wonderful WISH environment. Representing the students who live in WISH, one foreign student and one Japanese student expressed their appreciation and their ambition for the future.

During the discussion time, guests answered questions from the students and gave advice based on their rich experiences. Later, all attendees mingled and enjoyed lively conversation. Many circles were built around the special guests.

A little over one hour, it was a great opportunity for the leaders to feel the enthusiasm of the students. Students also felt the expectations from global business leaders and regional leaders and were encouraged for their coming years at school.
