Waseda to expand its degree programs offered exclusively in English
Applications now being accepted by the Faculty of Political Science and Economics and the Faculty of Science and Engineering

As an institution that sees globalization as a top priority, Waseda University has been selected by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as a participant in the Ministry's "Global 30" Project for Establishing Core Universities for Internationalization. To promote internationalization, the university is establishing degree programs taught exclusively in English in four undergraduate schools and five graduate schools within the Faculty of Political Science and Economics and the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Applications are now being accepted for enrollment in September 2010.

There are currently 3,125 international students enrolled at Waseda University (as of May 2009), the largest number of any university in Japan. English-language degree programs have already been offered for several years at one undergraduate and four graduate schools at the university,* including the Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies, an institute established in April 1998. The experience and human resources built up in these programs will be put to good use in the creation of a high-quality, world-class curriculum such as only Waseda University can offer - one that both attracts and challenges international students.

The new degree programs are designed to nurture a cosmopolitan outlook in Japanese and international students alike by creating environments in which the student hone one another's abilities and acquire a deeper mutual understanding through a balancing and merging of their diverse cultures. Graduates will emerge well equipped to pursue solutions to many of the problems they will face in their own regions, and thus to contribute to the wellbeing of human society as a whole. Preparations are also underway for the launch of a new degree program in the Faculty of Social Sciences, in September 2011.
