Support during emergencies

Healthy lifestyle starting from Waseda University

As a university which is responsible for the health of our students, Waseda University is working to promote student health from the integrated perspective of exercise, diet, medicine and emotional care.

This article introduces activities for realizing a Waseda Healthy Campus which will provide information and motivate students to maintain and manage their own health from their time as university students and throughout their life after graduating.

Compensation systems provided to students

Introducing the Waseda University Student Compensation System (Injury Compensation) and the Medical Expense Benefit Plan of the Student Health Promotion Mutual Aid Association.

Waseda University's unique compensation system

Waseda University Student Compensation System (Injury Compensation) (Abbreviation: Student Injury Compensation)

This system can be used by students in the event that an accident occurs and they are injured during university-approved education or research activities conducted in Japan or overseas. It is not insurance. Compensation payments are covered by the university budget. The university determines the amount of compensation based on an assessment by an appraisal company. The condition "during education or research activities" refers to during regular curriculum, during university events, while in university facilities, during extracurricular activities (athletic teams and other authorized clubs), while commuting to university, and while moving between facilities.

Persons eligible for compensation
●Official students in all undergraduate and graduate schools (including students who have exceeded the term normally required for graduation)
●Research students at all graduate schools
●Students in the Intensive Japanese Language Program (including students who have exceeded the term normally required for graduation)
●Non-degree students

*Please refer to the following website for a list of cases in which a payment is not issued for Student Injury Compensation.

System of the Student Health Promotion Mutual Aid Association

Medical Expense Benefits

The Student Health Promotion Mutual Aid Association is a unique organization of Waseda University. The association uses membership fees paid by members (qualified students) to conduct activities which seek to maintain and promote the health of members, as well as to issue medical expense benefits and health examination subsidies. Based on remittance for medical treatment which is covered by medical insurance, the association issues benefits for a portion of medical expenses paid at hospitals by members (maximum of 60,000 per year).

What is a contracted hospital/pharmacy?

Hospitals, dental clinics and pharmacies which are located near the university, have conducted a partnership contract, and are approved by the Student Health Promotion Mutual Aid Association. Information is sent from contracted hospitals and pharmacies to the Student Health Promotion Mutual Aid Association, so application procedures are not required for medical expense benefits.
