Nissan-Waseda Professionals Workshop launched in August 2007. It is a new approach towards academic-industrial collaboration: joint projects between a private enterprise (workers) and Waseda University to accomplish one common goal. Unlike a typical class or research, the Workshop is conducted by students and corporate professionals while the administrative staff manages it and the teaching staff can participate in it as observers. It is collaboration in quartet, as it were.

In 2007, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. proposed three project goals (specific tasks to be addressed) including Development of Recruiting Messages for Female Students. Students in the three project teams visited Nissan dealers and facilities, held meetings with Nissan employees, received guidance from them, and finally planned activities required to complete the tasks. The Workshop gained a favorable reputation and in January 2008 the students presented their projects directly to Mr. Carlos Ghosn, Nissan President and CEO, and Prof. Katsuhiko Shirai, President of Waseda University.

The Workshop will continue to be developed in collaboration with many other private enterprises.
