Including presentation of Honorary Doctorates and Distinguished Service Award

Holding the 2014 graduation ceremony and 2015 entrance ceremony

On March 25 and 26, the 2014 graduation ceremony was held for undergraduate schools and the Art and Architecture School, and the graduate school commencement ceremony was also held. A total of 12,245 students left our university to pursue their future. There were 9,147 graduates from undergraduate schools, 49 graduates from the Art and Architecture School, 2,171 graduates from the Master's Program, 680 graduates from the Professional Graduate School, and 198 graduates from the Doctoral Program. Moreover, 757 of the graduates were foreign students from overseas. At the ceremony, President Kaoru Kamata offered a congratulatory message to graduates, and Azusa Ono Memorial Awards were presented to students and groups who made outstanding achievements in the fields of academic studies, art and sports. Furthermore, the Award for Distinguished Service to Art was presented to the kabuki actor Nakamura Kichiemon.

Furthermore, on April 1 and 2 when cherry blossoms were in full bloom, the 2015 entrance ceremony was held for undergraduate schools, the Art and Architecture School, and graduate schools. 9,529 undergraduate students will enter Waseda University in April 2015. When combined with undergraduate students who entered our school in September 2014, a total of 9,878 students started their first year of life at Waseda. 486 of these students are foreign students from overseas. At the entrance ceremony, in recognition of the 70th anniversary of the end of World War Two, an Honorary Doctorate Degree was presented to Leo Melamed (Chairman Emeritus of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange), who received a life-saving "transit visa" from Waseda alumnus Chiune Sugihara and fled to Japan. Furthermore, the Award for Distinguished Service to Sports was presented to Yojiro Obata, who won gold medals in wrestling at the Tokyo and Mexico Olympics.
