Participation from 500 Tomon economists

Holding the Waseda Tomon Economists Gathering 2014

CEO Idei gives a speech.

On January 27, our school held the “Waseda Tomon Economists Gathering 2014” with participation from Waseda alumni who are active in the economic community both in Japan and overseas. In addition to conveying current conditions at Waseda University, this gathering is an opportunity for exchange between Tomon economists. This year marked the 4th time that the event was held. At the gathering, about 500 business leaders assembled at their alma mater Waseda University. The first section of the gathering began with an opening address given by President Kamata. Next, Professor Yasuhiro Hayashi (Faculty of Science and Engineering; Director of the Research Institute for Advanced Network Technology (RIANT)) gave a lecture entitled “Toward the Realization of a Smart Society—From Smart Houses, Buildings and Communities to Smart Grids.” The second section featured a speech by Nobuyuki Idei, founder and CEO of Quantum Leaps Corporation and Chairperson of the Waseda University Board of Trustees. CEO Idei represented Tomon economists and gave a message of strong encouragement to our university.

This year’s gathering also featured participation from about 30 trainees in the EU Executive Training Programme in Japan (ETP), a program entrusted to Waseda University by the European Union. Trainees introduced actions at our school’s global executive program. In addition to deepening friendships and relations, the gathering was an excellent networking opportunity for Tomon economists. Also very popular with participants was space for individual consultation regarding partnerships with Waseda University, a new feature of this year’s gathering. In all, the gathering was an outstanding success.
