MEXT Minister Shimomura tours COI STREAM facilities

Ground-breaking ceremony for the Smart Life Support Innovation Center

On December 24, a ground-breaking ceremony was held for the Smart Life Support Innovation R&D Center (provisional name) which is part of construction for the Smart Life Support Innovation Center, a facility aiming to achieve a safe, secure and comfortable network society at a low cost. The Smart Life Support Innovation Center was adopted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for the “International Science Innovation Center Development Project as a Joint Effort between Industry and Academia, Utilizing Local Resources, etc.”

In the afternoon of the 24th, MEXT Minister Hakubun Shimomura visited Waseda University. Minister Shimomura was guided by Director Tetsuya Osaka of the Institute for Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, and was accompanied by President Kamata and Vice-President Shuji Hashimoto. The tour included facilities related to the “Center of Innovation Science and Technology based Radical Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program (COI STREAM)” which is promoted by the MEXT and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), the “Storage Battery Infrastructure Center” for the MEXT’s Nanotechnology Platform, and the Storage Battery Platform Center for the JST’s Advanced Low Carbon Technology Research and Development Program (ALCA).
