This year, the Waseda University “AIMS7 Universities Consortium Plurilingual and Pluricultural Program” was selected for the MEXT’s “Re-Inventing Japan Project—ASEAN International Mobility for Students Programme (AIMS).”

In our program, Waseda University cooperates with 6 major ASEAN universities (University of Indonesia, Thammasat University, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Chulalongkorn University, De La Salle University, and University of Malaya) to establish a consortium (AIMS7 Universities Consortium) and a program for multilingual/multicultural coexistence which incorporates fieldwork and internships. The School of International Liberal Studies fulfills a leading role in the program. Student exchange over a 5-year period will include 100 Waseda students sent overseas and 75 foreign students accepted at our university. The program uses the term “cosmopolitan” to refer to professionals who understand each other’s social and cultural differences, and are capable of achieving a balance in global profit and regional profit. The program places particular emphasis on cultivating professionals who can coexist in Asia’s unique multilingual and multicultural environment.
