An opportunity for getting to know Waseda

Holding of the Waseda Supporters Club Executive Forum 2013

After Arakawa spoke, she was presented with flowers by President Kamata.

On November 29, approximately 130 special members of the Waseda Supporters Club attended an event entitled “A Gathering with Supporters of Waseda University: The Waseda Supporters Club Executive Forum 2013.”

The first part of the event began with a speech by President Kamata, who expressed gratitude toward daily support for Waseda and gave a report on recent conditions at our university. Next, a lecture was given by professional figure skater Shizuka Arakawa (a graduate from the School of Education). Arakawa discussed her memories of student life at Waseda, her journey toward winning a gold medal at the Turin Olympics, and support for reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake in her birthplace Tohoku. Arakawa was interviewed by Fuji Television announcer Tomo Miyazawa (a graduate from the School of Culture, Media and Society), who served as emcee at the event. The second part of the event was a social gathering where speeches were given by famous alumni athletes, coaches of Waseda athletic teams, and current student athletes. Also, a report was given by a representative of student staff from the International Community Center, which held its first overseas training thanks to support from the Waseda Supporters Club. The event ended successfully with a chorus of the school song led by the Waseda University Cheerleading Club.
