Daiya Seto (1st-year student at the School of Sport Sciences) of the Waseda University Swim Team beat his personal best time and won a gold medal in the men’s 400 meter individual medley at the FINA World Championships 2013 in Barcelona, Spain. It was a truly monumental achievement, with Daiya being the first Japanese swimmer to capture a gold medal in the men’s 400 meter individual medley at either the Olympics or World Championships. “I swam a perfect race,” said Daiya with a smile. “It was my best swim.”

These days, Daiya has devoted himself to practice, settings his sights on winning another gold medal at the World Championships which will be held in 2015 and then winning the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. On September 9th, Daiya visited President Kamata to show his gold medal and report his achievement.
