Akita International University, International Christian University, Sophia University, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University & Waseda University

Partnership agreement between 5 global universities

On August 26th, a partnership agreement was conducted between Waseda University, Akita International University, International Christian University, Sophia University and Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University. In order to further promote the globalization of higher education in Japan, the universities will mutually cooperate in order to share information related to educational methods and students support systems for the cultivation of global professionals, to conduct joint education, and to conduct joint operation for faculty development and staff developments.

The agreement was originally conducted in April 2010. However, Sophia University has now joined the original 4 universities of Akita International University, International Christian University, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University and Waseda University, and the agreement was conducted again between these 5 universities. Each of the universities has many years of experience in cultivating international professionals and has received high recognition for such effort. Both in name and reality, these are truly the universities and schools which lead the internationalization of education in Japan. "We would like to position the record of our 5 universities as a model for higher education throughout Japan," said President Nakajima of Akita International University when speaking as a representative for the 5 universities. As stated by President Nakajima, there are high expectations for the 5 universities to implement a strong cooperative relationship that will improve education facilities and increase educational quality.
