Since 2005, a Double Degree Program between Waseda University and Peking University has been conducted for undergraduate students. Now, a program has been started for the graduate school Master's Degree course in the field of "environment and sustainable development studies." In 2008, both universities signed a basic agreement for establishing a joint graduate school in the field of environment and sustainable development studies. After passing through a subsequent preparation period, the Waseda University Graduate School of Environment and Energy Engineering and the Peking University Graduate School of Environmental Science and Engineering have started a mutual exchange of students from this September. The goal of the program is to jointly cultivate leading professionals who will work to solve global issues.

Students participating in the program will spend 1 year of foreign study at each of the universities in order to fulfill requirements for a Master's Degree as stipulated by both of the universities. Students will then submit a master's thesis. Students who pass will be conferred a degree from both Waseda University and Peking University.
