Dr. Donald Keene presented with the Award for Distinguished Service to Art

At the September graduation ceremony held on September 15, a total of 1,323 students took a new step forward on their life journey. The breakdown consisted of 117 students from the doctoral program and 1,206 students from the undergraduate program, master's program and professional degree program.

President Kaoru Kamata gave the following message of encouragement to new students: "Waseda University is currently formulating Waseda Vision 150, a mid- to long-term plan which envisions the ideal form of our university 20 years later in 2032, the year marking the 150th anniversary of our founding. I hope that everyone graduating from our university will keep our university's founding spirit close to heart and, without fear of failure, will act as global leaders, exerting your full ability to contribute to world peace and the happiness of mankind. By doing so, we will progress steadily towards realization of Waseda Vision 150, and will eventually realize world peace and the happiness of mankind."

At the September entrance ceremony held on September 22nd, a total of 763 new undergraduate and graduate students officially began their studies at our university. President Kamata delivered a message to congratulate the new students on their entrance to Waseda.

At the related ceremony, the Award for Distinguished Service to Art was presented to Dr. Donald Keene, Honorary Doctor at Waseda University. The award recognizes Dr. Keene's position as a leading research in Japanese literature and culture, his many years of work to widely and accurately convey Japanese culture overseas, and his vast contributions to the promotion of our university's Tsubouchi Memorial Theatre Museum.

*Award for Distinguished Service to Art: Presented to alumni who have made outstanding contributions to the promotion of art over a period of many years. The award was established to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Waseda University's founding.
