The 85th Japan Intercollegiate Ski Championships were held for 8 exciting days from February 21st to 29th in Shizukuishi City and Hachimantai City in Iwate Prefecture. The Waseda University Women's Ski Team won their first overall championship. The men's team also won the cross-country relay for the 4th consecutive year and finished in 2nd place overall. "I am so happy that our women's team finally captured their first championship," said Coach Hidemichi Kurata. "All of our skiers gave their best performance."

Also, on March 3rd, 5 members (including one coach) of the Waseda Alpine Club formed the "2012 Aconcagua Mountaineering Expedition" and reached the summit of Aconcagua, the highest peak in South America (6,962 meters). "I'm happy that we reached the summit without any accidents," said Captain Shun Nakayama (Captain at the time of the expedition) as he exulted at the achievement. "It's the first time that any member of our club has experienced altitudes close to 7,000 meters. We all gave our best effort."
