Spring Verdure Issue (May)

Student dormitory with learning by students from a rich variety of backgrounds

Ceremony commemorating the start of construction for Nakano International Community Plaza

On March 8th, a ceremony was held to commemorate the start of construction for the Waseda University Nakano International Community Plaza. There ceremony was held at the planned construction site. Construction is scheduled to finish in time for opening of the plaza in 2014. The educational facilities located on the 1F of the Nakano International Community Plaza will serve as a place for life-long learning open to the community by utilizing the educational and research functions of our university.

The 2F to 11F contain dormitory facilities for approximately 870 students. As a project to deepen mutual understanding and international sensibility, the dormitory will house a mixture of Japanese students and foreign exchange students. In order to perform as a member of society at corporations and organizations in the future, it is necessary to interact and cooperate globally with people who possess a variety of backgrounds and values. At the dormitory, we plan to offer a program which will form the basis of such interaction and will instill students with the new abilities which are fundamental to working professionals.

On the day of the ceremony, President Kamata and other officials raised their voices and made the ceremonial first shovel. Everyone prayed for a successful completion to the construction.
