Recognition for activities as a hub for conveying information on scientific technology to the media

3 professors selected as NISTEP Researchers of the National Institute of Science and Technology Policy

Three professors from the Science Media Centre based at Waseda University were selected as NISTEP Researchers (Scientific Technology Communication Division) of the National Institute of Science and Technology Policy (NISTEP), an organization of the MEXT. The title of NISTEP Researcher is bestowed upon researchers and groups that have made outstanding achievements to the advancement and expansion of scientific technology.

In particular, the recent selection gives high recognition to actions taken by the Science Media Centre during the nuclear power plant accidents caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake. In order to quickly and objectively convey information such as knowledge regarding radiation, exposure and health effects, the centre immediately disclosed on the internet information and postings gathered from researchers and other sources. At the same time, the centre responded to requests from overseas and domestic media, actively introducing experts and providing information.

“In the future, we will work our hardest to contribute to social debate by conducting research and supporting people who convey information on scientific technology,” commented Associate Professor Tanaka.
