Considering the future of doctoral professionals in Japan

Presentation of results for the "Practical Training Program for Doctoral Students"

Mr. Chiaki Tanaka delivers a speech

From 2008, our university was selected for the MEXT's "Program for Developing Innovative Researchers" and began implementation of a program to cultivate practical doctoral professionals who will lead industrial innovation. On September 30th, the 3rd presentation of results was held by the Doctoral Student Career Center, an institution which forms the core of the program.

After a greeting by President Kamata, a keynote speech entitled "Global professional required by corporations for the new era" was given by President Chiaki Tanaka of Toray Industries Corporation. President Tanaka gave a passionate speech based on the two concepts of "managerial themes for the new 21st century-facing a historical turning point" and "professionals required by corporations for the new era." His speech discussed the importance of and expectations for doctoral professionals in Japan. He also expressed his expectations towards university and graduate school education.

After the keynote speech, results were presented by Professor Toru Asahi (Faculty of Science and Engineering), director of the Doctoral Student Career Center. Five students undergoing practical doctoral training gave research presentations on the four themes of 1) domestic/automobile, 2) overseas/universities; venture alliances, 3) overseas/research institutions and 4) overseas/universities; corporate alliances.

More than 130 people attended the event, and a meaningful presentation of results was given.
