Considering the current state of Japanese industry

Holding of the symposium "Dynamic Asia & The Revival of Japan"

A symposium entitled "Dynamic Asia & The Revival of Japan-A review of regional integration" (sponsored by the Waseda University Organization of Asian Studies) was held on May 21st at Masaru Ibuka Auditorium.

The Great East Japan Earthquake resulted in severe damage and caused many deaths and injuries. The disaster also inflicted an immeasurable blow on Japanese industry. When considering future reconstruction, it is necessary to accurately assess the current state of Japanese industry. Currently, public opinion is divided on the issue of whether or not to participate in TPP in order to strengthen the international competitiveness of Japanese products.

The symposium was an opportunity for thorough academic debate regarding Japan's options within Asia. The debate addressed the fields of agriculture, manufacturing and foreign relations. Professor Toshimitsu Shigemura (Faculty of International Liberal Studies) acted as moderator and a discussion session was held in which numerous instructors discussed paths of reconstruction for Japan following the recent earthquake.
