Spring Verdure Issue (May)

Women's team also fought hard and finished in second place

Men's Ski Team: First three-peat at Intercollegiate Championships in 45 years

The Waseda University Men's Varsity Ski Team won its third consecutive overall victory at the 84th Japan Intercollegiate Ski Championships held during a one-week period from February 18th to 24th. It was our university's first three-peat in 45 years at the championships, which consists of completion in the four events of alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, ski jump and Nordic combined. "Everyone fought their hardest until the very end," said a happy Captain Mikito Tachizaki. "I'm proud to have been part of this team and what we have accomplished in the past year." Although the Women's Varsity Ski Team suffered a close defeat in a tightly contested championship, their performance has raised high hopes for a first-ever victory at next year's event. "The season isn't over yet," said Coach Hidemichi Kurata (dispatched from Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance Company) with resolved determination. "We want to link what we accomplished at the intercollegiate championships to our next competition. We are going to ski our hardest until the end of the season."
