A forum titled "A Jump Toward Becoming an International University - Important Areas of Research and Young Research 'Personnel'" was held by the research academy in the Masaru Ibuka Auditorium on October 11.

First, there was a lecture by Vice-Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Kan Suzuki, on how the government is training young researchers in particular, as part of its "aim for strengthening university education and research", and roles it expects universities to play. Then, in addition to an introduction of the research academy by academy dean Shiro Yabushita, three young researchers from higher research institutes presented their advanced and unique research on "the mechanism of cooperation in human society - feelings of trust and justice", "15th night of dying - searching for a view of life and death from paintings", and "using space to unlock the riddle of molten metal."

In the five hour forum, about 300 participants from in and outside of the university listened enthusiastically to how our university is tackling, and what it has achieved under its mid-term goal, "Waseda Next 125", and how we, as an important area of research, are further strengthening research fields, our university's strong point.

The research academy was established in April 2009 with the aim of activating exchanges between researchers outside the framework of the faculties, research support and strategically planning and implementing important research in order to improve the overall level of research at Waseda.
