On April 16, Waseda University signed cooperative agreements with Akita International University (AIU), International Christian University (ICU) and Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU). Up until now, each university has been leading the way in producing internationally-minded personnel, and with this agreement will cooperate in maintaining the education environment and improving quality of education. In the future student exchanges, joint education, career support and faculty development, and staff development are planned to be carried out together.

On the same day, the presidents of the 4 universities attended a symposium titled "Does Japanese University Education Hold Currency in the World? - Aiming to Produce Human Resources for a Global Society." Here there was a lively debate on how university education should be and what the roles universities should play are.
