Emphasizing the importance of an extremely strong friendship between Japan and America

Undersecretary of State Hormats encourages young people who hold the future of our world

On November 16th, a lecture entitled "U.S.-Japan Leadership in the New Global Economy" was given at Okuma Auditorium by Mr. Robert D. Hormats, the U.S. Undersecretary of State for Economic, Energy, and Agricultural Affairs. During his lecture, Undersecretary Hormats referred to trends in the global economy and financial system. He also discussed future issues such as the prevention of global warming and the development of alternative energy, and he spoke about his expectations for young people that hold the future of our world in their hands.

"You are all part of an international generation that possesses a wonderful opportunity. You hold the future of Japan, Asia, and the Pacific in your hands. Thank you very much for your attention today."-This closing statement was met by thunderous applause from the nearly 200 students who filled the auditorium.
