Striving to erect a bridge to the future

W-BRIDGE 1st anniversary symposium

On November 28th, a symposium entitled "Striving to Erect a Bridge to the Future: 1st Year Results and the Future of the W-BRIDGE Project" was held to commemorate the 1st anniversary of W-BRIDGE, a joint project between Waseda University and Bridgestone. In the field of global environment, this project adds a partnership with community members to the existing partnership between industry and academia, and strives to support research and activities that will act as a bridge between the different parties.

At the symposium, a keynote lecture was conducted by Mr. Shuzo Nishioka, Special Visiting Researcher at the National Institute of Environmental Studies, and Mr. Nobuo Mimura, Special Assistant to the President at Ibaraki University. Debate was held regarding the lives of citizens and the forms of universities from the perspective of global environmental issues. Reports were also given regarding the results of projects supported by W-BRIDGE. Introductions were made for a variety of research and activities targeting the next generation. For example, supervisors gave reports on the absorption of CO2 through the greening of barren land in Southeast Asia, as well as on empirical research for the production of bio-fuels.
