Waseda Journalism Prize Awards Ceremony and Commemorative Talk Session

Awards ceremony held for 9th Waseda Journalism Prize

On November 6th, an awards ceremony for the 9th Ishibashi Taizan Memorial Waseda Journalism Prize was held at the Rihga Royal Hotel Tokyo. This year's award-winning works are listed below.

The ceremony began with a speech and presentation of awards conducted by President Shirai. Following comments given by Mr. Satoshi Kamata, a member of the Selection Committee, each of the award recipients discussed their passion for journalism.

In conjunction with the awards ceremony, a new book entitled "Journalism for Visualization" (Waseda University Publishing) was published as a summary of courses held in commemoration of the Waseda Journalism Prize.

Waseda Journalism Prize Commemorative Talk Session: "A Single Photograph Can Change Society"

On November 29th, during the Photojournalism Festival jointly held by DAYS JAPAN and Waseda University, the Waseda Journalism Prize Commemorative Talk Session: "A Single Photograph Can Change Society" was held at Azusa Ono Memorial Auditorium. At the event, discussion was held regarding the current state of and issues pertaining to image journalism. Appearing on the podium as panelists were Mr. Takeyoshi Tanuma, photographer and member of the Selection Committee, as well as 2 past recipients of the Waseda Journalism Prize.

Also held at the same time was an exhibition entitled "History of the Ishibashi Taizan Memorial Waseda Journalism Prize". Many individuals viewed the history of the prize with great interest.
