Partnership with the government of Singapore

Establishment of an overseas center for bioscience

On September 14th, the "Waseda University Bioscience Singapore Research Institute" (WABIOS; Director: Professor Shinichi Ishiwata, Faculty of Science and Engineering) was established in the Biopolis district of Singapore, which is advancing the bioscience industry on a national level. Also, on the same day, a signing ceremony was held between Waseda and the Singapore Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). The two parties agreed to cooperate in conducting joint research and developing capable research professionals.

WABIOS seeks to advance research conducted through partnerships, joint work and fusion with distinguished researchers from around the world, and to develop new academic fields. Research themes include 1) the construction of new cellular biophysics, 2) the construction of development processes for pharmaceuticals and diagnosis methods, 3) research for the development of biopharmaceuticals and medical devices, and 4) research for the diagnosis and treatment of cranial nerve disease.
