Discussing the origin of works which occupy a heavy position in modern literature

Lecture by Takai Yuichi, Recipient of the Waseda University Award for Distinguished Service to Art

On June 10th, writer Yuichi Takai was invited to give a lecture at Waseda University. Takai, who is a graduate of Waseda, was named as the Recipient of the Waseda University Award for Distinguished Service to Art in April of this year.

The first part of the lecture began within an address given by Vice-President Kenjiro Tsuchii. Yuichi Takai then presented a lecture entitled “Fear of Living and Literature”, discussing the origin of his works which occupy a heavy position in modern literature, as well as his recent representative works. In the second part, Professor Kunihiko Nakajima moderated a discussion entitled “The Tide of Time” between Yuichi Takai and Tetsuo Matsuda (Editor at Chikumashobo). Waseda graduate students participated in the lively debated that unfolded during the discussion.
