On April 8th, Waseda University established the Office for Aiding Reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake (Director: President Kaoru Kamata; Secretariat: General Affairs Division) in order to support Japan's recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake.

The powerful earthquake which occurred on March 11th of 2011 struck not only with devastating tremors, but also caused a giant tsunami and damaged nuclear facilities. This series of disasters has inflicted unprecedented damage on East Japan. Following the earthquake, Waseda University established a disasters headquarters and cooperated with each undergraduate and graduate school in order to assess the safety of students, alumni, faculty and staff. We have also worked to implement emergency responses such as the exemption of tuition fees depending on damages suffered, as well measures for conserving electricity.

The newly established Office for Aiding Reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake will conduct activities separate from our university's disasters headquarters. In addition to Executive Directors and Senior Deans, specialists from both inside and outside our university will be added as members when necessary. The office will implement aid activities which are imbued with the wisdom of our university and seek to realize full recovery. Furthermore, the office shall seek to exist as a one-stop service for information and will unify information available to the general public through our university's home page.
